Interpretation of Results
Goods and Services Tax (GST) is an indirect multi-stage consumption tax. In "Add GST" mode, tax is applied on top of the net base amount; in "Remove GST" mode, the pre-tax base is extracted from a tax-inclusive retail price.
Net Base Amount
The commercial transaction cost of goods or services prior to the application of statutory tax.
Key Context: Used for inventory valuation and wholesale invoice billing.
GST Amount
The total tax collected on behalf of revenue authorities (often split equally into CGST and SGST in dual-GST regimes).
Key Context: Eligible businesses may claim input tax credits (ITC) on this amount against output tax liabilities.
Practical Use Cases
Commercial Invoicing & Quotations
Generate legally compliant tax invoices with transparent breakdowns of net value and statutory tax obligations.
Back-Calculating Base Cost from Retail Prices
Extract true wholesale product costs from consumer receipts and all-inclusive retail price tags.
Limitations & Key Assumptions
- Assumes a single flat rate applied uniformly across the transaction; does not handle blended multi-rate invoices.
- Does not calculate jurisdiction-specific cess, local municipal surcharges, or custom tariffs.
